Howdy,
Well, it is the last day of the conference and Texas A&M Geosciences is in full force. Faculty and students alike have been presenting posters and giving talks all morning and are scheduled to continue doing so throughout the afternoon. Not only have we been presenting world-class research, but we have also been strengthening university relations with other research institutions. Our booth in the exhibitors hall has attracted a lot of traffic from recruiters from these different institutions eager to learn about the methods we employ here at Texas A&M and how we are able to reach so many different students. Take a look at my earlier posts about networking with UT and look forward to hearing more about how we are leading in not only science, but also in science recruiting.
We started the day bright and early in Moscone South visiting Dr. Sonia Garcia, Director of Recruitment and Dr. Chris Houser, professor of geography and geology. Their poster presented research from the past three summers of the GeoX high school recruitment exploration program. The program brings in approximately 20-25 high school juniors and seniors for a week every summer and allows them to get an in-depth introduction to all of the geoscience fields that we offer. It has been highly successful in recruiting top students to Texas A&M and our college. It was a unique experience for myself since I am the product of another closely related recruitment program that Dr. Garcia holds in the fall and I was able to personally attest to the success of these programs to staff from Florida State, University of Texas and Florida International University. We also went by several posters from graduate students in atmospheric sciences, geography and oceanography.
We have a special surprise for you all for our final day recap post, but if you are eager to know where we are headed this afternoon, be sure to like all of our social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest) for live posts and tweets about our special afternoon feature.
See you in a few!
